Amtrak train hits truck circumventing crossing in southern Alabama; no serious injuries reported

IRVINGTON, Ala. — An Amtrak train collided with a pickup truck that drove around a lowered crossing arm in southern Alabama on Tuesday, but no one was seriously injured in the dramatic crash captured on surveillance video.

The collision occurred around 11 a.m. on Bayou La Batre Highway, south of Highway 90 in Irvington, according to Amtrak officials. The train was traveling from New Orleans to Mobile when it struck the truck.

Surveillance footage shows a white pickup approaching the railroad crossing and edging around the lowered crossing arm despite flashing red warning lights.
