Arts center plans 255-seat theater in Mobile, seeks financial support from city

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A performing arts theater is planned, and supporters asked the City Council on Tuesday to chip in.

The Azalea City Center for the Arts plans to build the 255-seat theater on Springdale Boulevard in the old Calagaz Photo building. Christopher Paragone, executive director of the arts center, said it will fill a void left by the demolition of the theater at the old Civic Center.

“It’s been a long-time need to have a midsize venue in Mobile,” Paragone told FOX10 News. “But now, with the lack of a performing art space, this is something that the city could partner with us, and then we could get it up and running. I think it would fill the need for the next few years until they get a theater downtown.”…
