State sells $730 million in bonds for highway Ainsworth calls ‘biggest abuse of taxpayer funding in Alabama history’

The Alabama Highway Authority on Thursday issued $730 million in bonds to complete a four-lane route from Mobile to Tuscaloosa, an initiative the Gov. Kay Ivey administration has long supported as necessary to support the economy in west Alabama.

The state Finance Department issued a statement about the bond issue, first reported by Alabama Daily News.

The bond issue will “support the planning, design, and construction of the West Alabama Corridor project.”…
