MOBILE, Ala (WKRG) – It’s rare to have a traffic circle be the talk of the town. Mobile Police are investigating after the new roundabout at South McGregor Avenue and Dauphin Street was damaged just days after opening.
Pictures taken by WKRG show that the new roundabout intersection of McGregor Avenue and Dauphin Street has been damaged significantly. It appears a driver was heading west on Dauphin Street when they hit the traffic circle, tore one of the direction signs loose and dragged it into another sign.
With its eye-catching gazebo and fresh sod, the traffic circle was a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. Several people came by to have a look Saturday morning. More than one person lamented, “we just can’t have nice things.”
Construction began in 2023, to widen McGregor Avenue, improve the roads, add sidewalks, and replace underground utilities…
