MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The City of Mobile is launching a new task force focused on crime and violence prevention, with city leaders saying better coordination could help make communities safer.

Members of the Safer Communities Task Force met Tuesday at Government Plaza to officially launch their efforts.
Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis says the Safer Communities Task Force was created to bring people who are already working in the community together.
“Oftentimes, there’s a lot of talk. What you saw today were a bunch of doers. These are people who are out there doing the work now. What we want to do is identify ways we can lift each other up,” Mayor Cheriogotis said.
But the work ahead will take time, as officials say this task force is designed for long-term impact rather than quick fixes…
