Amtrak is expected to award a design contract soon for a permanent platform to replace the temporary aluminum platform in Mobile for its train route between Mobile and New Orleans, FOX10 News reports. Meanwhile, the city is working with Mott MacDonald to design a covering that will shelter passengers from the rain and sun, according to Stephen McNair, the city’s director of external and governmental affairs. “The city is going to continue having a tent or some kind of covering on site until the permanent covering is completed,” McNair said, adding that the city will seek grant funding to pay for the project.
