Mobile firefighters bring Christmas magic to Mulherin Home

MOBILE, Ala.  (WKRG) — A decades-old Christmas tradition in Mobile returns as firefighters delivered holiday cheer and gifts to residents at the Mulherin Home, a home for people with disabilities.

The Mobile Firefighters Association was joined by Santa Claus, who brought smiles, laughter and received a warm welcome at the home on Halls Mill Road. The annual visit has become a meaningful tradition, now spanning more than 65 years.

“A lot of these residents don’t have any family. So, we’re that family for them when it comes to Christmas Eve and give them the Christmas Eve, like all of the families have,” said Seth Blitch, with the Mobile Firefighters Association Local 1349.

The tradition is centered on connection and consistency, making sure these residents get in the Christmas spirit. Joining Santa and the firefighters this year was a former MLB pitcher and Mobile native, Jake Peavy.

“This is what it’s about. You know, some people less fortunate than us, people who may or may not have family members to share a special occasion with. So to come over here and share a moment that these residents deserve,” Peavy said…
