Santa visits babies in NICU at Mobile’s USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Despite delivering toys to billions of kids around the world, Santa took some time to visit some very special patients at USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Mobile.

The man in the red suit stopped in the neonatal intensive care unit to visit with 50 babies who were spending their first Christmas in the hospital because of illness or premature birth.

The nurses and staff in the NICU set up the visit so parents and caregivers could still mark the occasion with baby’s first photo with Santa.

“Activities such as pictures with Santa are rooted in family-centered care, which research shows reduces parental stress and strengthens parent-infant bonding,” said Rachel Stanley, RN, a nurse in the NICU who works with parents and caregivers. “Supporting families emotionally is not separate from medical care — it is part of delivering the best outcomes for our smallest patients.”…
