Mobile “probably” moving some city offices out of Government Plaza

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A 90% increase in rent at Government Plaza is forcing Mobile city leaders to take a hard look at how much office space is really needed. Chief of Operations James Barber told city council members Tuesday morning during their pre-council meeting that they’re currently analyzing how much space is being used and what other real estate options are available.

“The mayor wants to do a square footage assessment for [Government Plaza] and then, as we reduce our footprint, it reduces the cost here and makes some of our departments more accessible to the public,” said Barber. “Joe Snowden is undertaking the space analysis and probably vacating some space, but we haven’t made a decision on where to relocate a lot of our different departments that we have here, but it’s being studied.”…
