Mobile police celebrate safe and crime-free New Year’s Eve MoonPie event

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – The Mobile Police Department reported a successful start to the new year with no major incidents during the annual MoonPie Over Mobile New Year’s Eve celebration downtown.

Mobile police investigating first homicide of 2026

2026 for the Port City kicked off with around 6,000 people gathering to see a 600-pound moon pie falling from the sky, but behind the scenes, officers with the Mobile Police Department were on high alert to keep crime at bay.

“New Year’s this year was spectacular,” Mobile Police Department Public Information Officer Roderick Miles said. “We didn’t have any major incidents to report.”
