MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A police officer who suffered a gunshot wound while responding to a standoff in Midtown on Sunday did not wait for an ambulance, according to the city’s executive director of public safety.
Curtis Graves said Tuesday that Lt. Lorenzo Matthews, a 26-year veteran of the force, had the wherewithal after getting hit in the abdomen to drive himself to the hospital. He remains hospitalized and has a long road to recovery.
