‘He’s in good spirits’: Officer shot during standoff drives himself to hospital, now recovering

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile Chief of Police William Jackson says Lt. Lorenzo Matthews, a 26-year veteran of the Mobile Police Department, faces six months to a year of recovery after a standoff with two suspects.

Matthews drove himself to the hospital after being struck in the lower abdomen on the porch of the home.

“He’s in good spirits, which is good. But we do know he’s got a long road to recovery, ” said Jackson.
