Mobile’s Mardi Gras horse rider training moving due to threat of rain

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Because of impending heavy rain, the City of Mobile is moving Saturday’s horse rider training to The Grounds, according to city officials.

Historic locomotive ‘Big Boy’ to embark on first coast-to-coast tour in 2026

The City of Mobile Animal Services Department will lead the free event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, in a covered facility at The Grounds, 1035 Cody Road North, according to a City of Mobile news release.

The training is for horse owners who plan to ride in any of the 2026 Mardi Gras parades and have not been through a certified rider course in the past year. Owners who ride their horses regularly only have to complete the course once every three years.

People who rent the horses and do not ride regularly have to complete the training yearly. While this course is being offered by the city, training is typically done by the horse vendor who is working with each parading organization, according to the release…
