Mobile man acquitted of capital murder in case defense argued was ‘house of cards’

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A jury on Monday found a man not guilty of capital murder in the shooting death of a man in the Maysville community.

It was the second time Isaac Douglas Bell, 43, of Mobile, had been tried in the case. He also faced a capital murder charge in an unrelated case nearly a quarter-century ago.

“I think we presented a very good case, but these cases are hard,” Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said following the verdict. “Each and every one of them is hard. We have the highest burden of proof that there is in the legal system. Not the result we wanted today, but again, very much respect to the work that the jury put into this and the decision they made.”…
