Baldwin County road closures begin for drainage and intersection improvements

Daphne, Ala. (WALA) – A section of County Road 55 south of Silverhill closed to all through traffic Tuesday, January 13, 2026 as construction began on new drainage and a turn lane at County Road 34.

The project is one of several road improvements getting underway this month in Baldwin County. Signs are posted along Hoffman Road and County Road 55 warning drivers of the closure.

The Baldwin County Highway Department posted a detour map on its website showing County Road 9 as the easiest route around the construction zone. The project is expected to take up to two weeks to complete, though county engineers hope the road can reopen sooner.

Two-phase construction planned

Mark Acreman, Assistant Baldwin County Engineer, said the work will happen in two phases.

“The first phase is going to be to replace the pipe,” Acreman said. “Then, once they go in to install the left turn lane, it will take them a little bit longer, but that won’t necessarily require a full detour.”…
