Alabama lawmaker pushes for death penalty for public murder

DAPHNE, Ala. (WKRG) — The death penalty could be on the table for those in Alabama who are found guilty of using a weapon to murder someone in public.

The Saenger Theater in 2025 and the 2024 MoonPie over Mobile are just two shootings where one person died, but many other lives were put in danger.

“If only one person dies, in that instance, you can’t charge them with capital murder,” Alabama State Representative Matt Simpson from Baldwin County said.
