Baldwin County cuts courier service to Fairhope Library after state funding loss

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) – Baldwin County commissioners announced Tuesday, January 20, 2026 they will cut courier service to the Fairhope Library after the facility lost state funding last week.

The decision was announced at the Baldwin County Commission meeting, where dozens of citizens with the Read Freely Alabama group attended to express opposition to the move.

“What we have found out is that library has lost its state funds,” said Jeb Ball, chairman of the Baldwin County Commission. “What we provide for that library is a courier service and in order to provide that courier service, the state funds was hitched to that and so since the state funds has been denied to that library, we will no longer provide that courier service and that’s what a lot of the people were upset about.”
