MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A mother dog and her newborn puppies were rescued last Friday after Mississippi floodwaters surrounded the area where they were chained outside, prompting an urgent response from local animal rescuers.
The dog was left attached to a chain near a doghouse as rising water surrounded her and her eight newborn puppies, forcing her to bark for help as the puppies clung to life.
An urgent post shared on Facebook reached Stevie Lynn Lewis, an animal rescuer with Wags and Whiskers, a foster-based animal rescue in Mobile.

“The second that I saw that sweet mama dog on that heavy chain, trying with all of her might to get her babies safe and out of that water,” said Lewis. “I just knew we had to do something.”
