Storm leaves heavy damage at Foley Grove retirement community

FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) – A thunderstorm slammed a retirement community in Foley Sunday, leaving behind heavy damage as strong winds and driving rain ripped apart carports and tore up porches.

The storm hit the Foley Grove along County Road 65 around noon, leaving carports, patios and porches twisted and mangled.

“I just heard a big boom and the rain was pouring and I saw stuff flying out the window there,” said Terrie Martin, who has lived at the retirement community with her husband and their two dogs for nearly four years…
