‘Everything else can be replaced’: Picking up the pieces after damaging winds blast Foley neighborhood

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — The sound of repairs rang out through The Grove in Foley on Monday, after winds blasted parts of the community on Sunday.

“She said the roof’s buckling, and just like that it was gone,” said Richard Leonowicz.

Now, part of their roof is in the trees lining their backyard, while neighbors pull together to save what’s left.

“We lost our carport, the roof off our shed,” said Mary Jo Leonowicz. “We lost our porch, damage to his truck.”

That story repeated over and over again throughout the retirement community after straight-line winds associated with a front that moved through the area Sunday afternoon.

“Something from the neighbor’s house hit the front of the house, and it hit the wall and sounded like a boom,” said David Kelly, looking at what’s left of his carport…
