Tougher penalties proposed for those who run from law enforcement in Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A proposed Alabama bill could significantly increase penalties for eluding or attempting to elude law enforcement.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch told News 5 that deputies often must make quick decisions when drivers refuse to stop.

“It’s one of those where you have to weigh all, all the different factors in a pursuit,” Burch said. “We don’t want to just let bad guys go either.”

“There’s a lot of moving parts in the pursuit. You know, the sheriff’s office is very aggressive in pursuing those individuals,” Burch continued…
