Mobile Police Department swears in nearly 20 new officers after 14-week training program

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Nearly two dozen new officers took the oath to protect and serve Mobile and surrounding communities Tuesday morning, marking the completion of a 14-week training program.

The graduation ceremony added more than 20 new officers to patrol the streets across the Mobile area. The recruits spent 14 weeks training for scenarios ranging from traffic stops to active shooter situations.

Mobile Police Chief William Jackson said the new officers will significantly help department staffing levels.

“This really helps us and our staffing. As we sit right now, walking out of the door, we’ll be sitting at 499. We have another class starting in March. Hopefully, we’ll enroll 20 to 22 in that one. So, things are looking positive for us in our recruiting and our retention,” Jackson said…
