Appeals court revives Mobile murder case in death of 3-year-old

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — The murder case against a Mobile man accused of killing a three-year-old child is back on track after the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals reversed a lower court ruling that prosecutors said threatened to derail the case entirely.

In a decision released Thursday, the appellate court ruled that the Mobile County Circuit Court improperly excluded key out-of-court statements made by the victim’s brother, a child witness prosecutors say observed abuse leading up to Tyren Edwards death. The ruling sends the case against Abraham Hatch back to the trial court for further proceedings.

Hatch is charged with murder in the death of three-year-old Tyren Edwards. Prosecutors have alleged that Tyren’s brother, identified in court records as T.E., witnessed abusive behavior toward the child and was himself a victim of similar abuse…
