Judge sets $900,000 cash bond for man accused of kidnapping Theodore family

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A judge set a $900,000 cash bond Wednesday morning for a kidnapping suspect. Juan Guerra is accused of taking 40-year-old Aurelia Choc Cac, 17-year-old Niurka Zuleta Choc, and 2-year-old Anthony Choc from their Ben Hamilton Road home. Neighbors last saw the family on January 31st. Blood was found in the home and Aurelia’s mattress and hamper are missing. Investigators say on Monday Guerra, 31, was pulled over for a traffic stop in Bay Minette, took off into the woods and was found hours later by a canine unit hiding under a house. Investigators still don’t know where the family is, but they believe they were taken from their home alive in a black van that was found at Guerra’s sister’s Clearview Drive home in Mobile on Tuesday.

The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office requested bond be set at $250,000 in cash for each kidnapping charge during Wednesday’s bond hearing. Judge Jennifer Wright set it at $300,000 cash for each count. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office says Guerra is in the country illegally. ICE has placed a hold on him at Mobile Metro Jail. MCSO also released his known criminal history:
