Family of three missing for days; kidnapping suspect charged

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — New details were released during a bond hearing for the man accused of kidnapping a family from Theodore.

Aurelia Choc, 40, and her two children, 17-year-old Niurka Zule-Ta Choc and 2-year-old Anthony Garcia Choc, were last seen at their home on Friday, Jan. 30. They were reported missing the next day.

Juan Carlos Argueta Guerrawas arrested Monday following a police chase in Bay Minette and charged with three counts of kidnapping.

Authorities said in court that surveillance video showed a black van going to and coming from the home three times around the time the family went missing.

It was first seen around 11 p.m. Jan. 30 and was last seen around 2 a.m. the next day. The FBI used phone record pings to track the routes and times the van took. The van was seen on Old Pascagoula Road and Schillinger Road, among others.

Those phone records are what led authorities to the traffic stop in Baldwin County, which resulted in Guerra’s arrest…
