Baldwin County launches $2M Eastern Shore Trail expansion along U.S. 98

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A recreational trail along the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay in Baldwin County is growing, according to the Baldwin County Commission.

Commissioners announced last week construction has started on a new segment of Eastern Shore Trail, which runs along U.S. Highway 98, “further enhancing the connectivity and recreational opportunities within Baldwin County.”

According to a Baldwin County Commission news release, the project includes the addition of an 8-foot-wide asphalt multi-use trail that will extend approximately 1.84 miles, starting at Fish River.

The trail is part of the Eastern Shore Trail system, which spans 23 miles currently, but will be 24.8 miles after this latest segment is complete.

“As Baldwin County continues to experience steady growth, expanding the Eastern Shore Trail strengthens regional connectivity while providing a safer, dedicated space for pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorized users along one of the county’s most traveled corridors,” the release said. “This investment supports alternative transportation options, encourages healthy lifestyles, and enhances economic vitality across the Eastern Shore.”…
