In a world of turmoil, Mobile’s infamous Comic Cowboys opted to keep their grenade-throwing close to home for 2026. Mostly.
New Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis got a particularly warm welcome. One of the group’s placards lamented that “Now we’ll NEVER get a TRADER JOE’S,” referring to Cheriogotis’ marriage to a member of the family behind the Greer’s grocery empire. Another, titled “Old Cracker – New Cracker” used Cracker Barrel’s rebranding misfire to compare him to his predecessor, Sandy Stimpson. A third showed Stimpson sticking Spiro with the bill for unpaid rent at city hall. There was one playing on the difficulty of spelling his last name. And in the unkindest cut, one placard read, “Hey Spiro, Just cuz Greer’s got it don’t mean you gotta EAT it.”
Some will say that the only thing worse than being noticed by the Comic Cowboys is not being noticed by the Comic Cowboys. Cheriogotis might just have to take that to heart this year…
