Theodore cement plant faces new maximum ADEM fine

THEODORE, Ala. (NBC 15) — The operator of the cement plant on the Theodore Industrial Canal has agreed to pay a $250,000 civil penalty under a proposed consent order with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), marking the latest enforcement action in a series of regulatory actions against the facility.

The order, signed Jan. 20 by Amrize Cement, Inc., resolves ADEM allegations that the plant violated conditions of its air emissions permit, including exceedances of permitted particulate limits and missed monitoring requirements at its Mobile County facility. While ADEM characterized the violations as serious, the department said it was not aware of any long-term environmental harm.
