New Habitat for Humanity brings family together

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Habitat for Humanity dedicated a new home on Banks Avenue in Mobile on Friday morning, fulfilling a decadeslong goal for one local family.

Shirley Hunter purchased the lot on which her new home sits 30 years ago. The property is located directly behind her mother’s residence, Hunter serves as a caregiver to her mother and her own son. Hunter’s son, who has special needs, will live in the home with her.

“This is marvelous. I am so happy and overfilled with joy and to be able to have a home, a new home at that,” Hunter said.

Before the dedication, Hunter and her son had been living in a small mobile home. Hunter said the new house gives each of them their own space…
