Irvington fire shows how quickly blazes spread in dry conditions

IRVINGTON, Ala. (WKRG) β€” A fire in south Mobile County serves as a reminder of the dangerously dry conditions around the coast. A fire tore through several small homes in a short time over the weekend.

Along a blackened plot of land on Oak Farms Drive in Irvington, parts could be found smoldering a full day after the blaze.

A brush fire tore through the area beginning around 11 a.m. Saturday. The St. Elmo Irvington Volunteer Fire Department was joined by crews from Grand Bay and Theodore Dawes to get the blaze under control.

At least one trailer home was burned to the ground; it’s one of seven homes heavily damaged by this fire around the property. Fire officials say thankfully, all of the homes were empty and no one was hurt. The fire debris and ash all around the area are reminders of how quickly a fire can spread this time of year…
