Mobile man charged in downtown shootout wasn’t there, lawyer says

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The lawyer for a man accused of shooting five people during a shootout outside of a downtown nightclub on the night of Joe Cain Day last month contends his client was not even there.

But it is not the first gunbattle that Devon Deangelos Jeffery has been involved in, according to court records.

Police did not charge Jeffery after the April 2024 incident at a barbershop on Pleasant Valley Road, off Cottage Hill Road. The 21-year-old Mobile man and another man exchanged gunfire. Prosecutors decided to charge only the other man, Jamarcus Lawarren Grayson…
