Mobile County jury awards $50 million in wrongful-death malpractice case

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A jury Thursday awarded $50 million in a wrongful-death medical malpractice case.

The 13-day trial in front of Mobile County Circuit Judge Ben Brooks revolved around a man who died following a heart catheterization in December 2020. Dan Haas went to the hospital with chest pain after a hunting trip. Lawyers from the Mobile firm Cunningham Bounds argued that Dr. John Galla failed to take adequately treat a life-threatening blockage and sent him home.
