BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) – A case that’s drawn attention across state lines is now moving again in North Carolina—while investigators in Baldwin County say they’re still working to bring the suspect back to Alabama.
New court records in Wake County, North Carolina show Brenton Fillers’ bond has been reduced from $500,000 to $100,000. Records also show Fillers has a new attorney, and his case has been reset for April 14.
Fillers was arrested in January after investigators say he spent more than a year slipping away from law enforcement. Spanish Fort police have been looking for him since 2023, accusing him of targeting women he met online and scamming them out of cars and cash—a pattern investigators say left victims not just out of money, but shaken that someone they trusted could disappear so easily.
