Freeze warning for South Alabama for Monday and Tuesday – temperatures as low as 24

On Sunday at 1:09 p.m. a freeze warning was released by the National Weather Service valid from Monday 10 p.m. until Tuesday 9 a.m. for Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Butler, Crenshaw, Escambia, Covington, Mobile and Baldwin counties.

The weather service says to be ready for, “Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 24 degrees inland to near 32 along the I-10 corridor.”

“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” explains the weather service. “Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.”

What to do if there is a freeze watch or warning

Freeze warnings are issued from May to October (but can be extended if necessary), when low temperatures are expected to be 29-32 degrees. If there is a potential for temperatures to fall into these thresholds, a freeze watch may be issued a few days ahead of time…
