MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – South Alabama softball completed a three-game Sun Belt Conference series sweep of Troy on Sunday, defeating the Trojans 5-4 at Jaguar Field.
The Jaguars jumped ahead early, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI groundout, a Troy error, and an RBI single.
Troy rallies, but South Alabama holds on
Troy trimmed the deficit in the third inning when McKinnon Howard hit a double into the gap, allowing Megan Loftis to score and make it 3-2. South Alabama responded in the bottom half of the inning when Olivia Branstetter hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 4-2.
Troy’s Ella Cunningham hit a home run to center field in the fifth inning to cut the score to 4-3. Freshman catcher Kara Wine answered with a solo home run in the sixth — her third of the season — to push the Jaguars’ lead to 5-3…
