MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Nearly five years after Chavan Scruggs was shot and killed outside Figures Park while walking home, his mother has built an anti-gun violence organization with more than 260 members and secured a city proclamation in his honor.
Nija Hill founded Mothers Involved Against Gun Violence following her son’s death to support those who have lost loved ones to gun violence. The group has since grown to more than 260 members.
“It’s been a challenge getting people to see a vision that they can’t see,” Hill said. “As I stated in order to be able to address gun violence you have to be a person that has experienced that violence to understand peace.”…
