Suspect in Mobile murder case transferred from Metro Jail after being attacked

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend to death on March 21 has been transferred out of Mobile Metro Jail after being attacked by inmates, according to the Mobile Police Department.

Desmond Longmire, 39, of Mobile, was attacked by inmateson Monday in Metro Jail . He was being held there on a murder and first-degree burglary charge. The inmates who attacked him reportedly knew the victim.

Longmire was taken to the hospital before being transferred to the Escambia County Jail in Brewton, where he remains, News 5 has learned.

Mobile police responded around 12:30 a.m. March 21, to a home in the 5400 block of Vienna Avenue, where they found 40-year-old Sheanaka Poindexter dead from a gunshot wound.
