Severe drought grips much of southwest Alabama, conditions expected to persist

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A new report from the National Weather Service shows much of the NBC 15 viewing area is dealing with significant drought, with impacts being felt from Mobile and Baldwin counties north into Clarke, Washington, Monroe, Conecuh and Escambia counties.

The latest drought information statement, issued April 9, indicates more than 60% of the local region is now in severe to extreme drought.

Across inland counties like Monroe, Conecuh, Escambia and parts of Clarke and Washington counties, conditions are among the worst. The report places some of these areas in “extreme drought,” while much of the rest of southwest Alabama—including Mobile and Baldwin Counties—is experiencing severe drought conditions…
