80-year-old Mobile man’s death resulted from ‘mutual combat’ attorney says

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – An altercation between a 60-year-old man and an 81-year-old man that turned deadly in December resulted from “mutual combat,” the defendant’s lawyer said Wednesday.

The defendant, Sammy Louis Tate, gave up his right to a preliminary hearing in the beating death of 81-year-old Charles Edward. A grand jury now will consider a reckless manslaughter charge.

The incident occurred in a parking lot on St. Stephens Road. Police found Edward unresponsive. He later died from his injuries…
