Woman escapes kidnapper, hides in gas station bathroom, sheriff says

(KTLA) — A woman kidnapped outside her Northern California home managed to escape her assailant by hiding in the bathroom of a gas station last week, authorities said.

The frightening April 23 incident unfolded just after 3:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the department’s emergency communications center received a 911 call and multiple text messages at 3:47 a.m. from the 35-year-old victim, who reported she had been kidnapped outside her residence in McKinleyville, California, and was hiding in a gas station restroom in Blue Lake, about 10 miles away.

Details remain limited, but sheriff’s investigators said the woman managed to escape the suspect, later identified as 46-year-old Timothy Richard Long, when he pulled over to refuel just off Highway 299.
