Explosive device found in Alabama water reservoir

(NewsNation) — Authorities in Alabama collected and detonated a grenade-type improvised explosive device that was found underwater at a water reservoir in Mobile.

The device was found by divers surveying the Converse Reservoir Dam for repairs and maintenance, prompting the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System officials to notify law enforcement.

“Our top priority is keeping your drinking water safe,” said local water official Bud McCrory. “This is an unprecedented threat, and we are fortunate that this device was discovered before it could cause serious damage to our water supply or harm to individuals.”
