SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif — San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow responded to criticism from the Department of Homeland Security over a deadly triple stabbing in Modesto.
The comments came after DHS said in a news release that San Joaquin County refused a hold last year on a man who was later charged in Stanislaus County with killing three family members, including an infant. 28-year-old Joaquin Escoto ultimately entered a not guilty plea on three counts of murder, as well as charges of child assault, child endangerment, and DUI. DHS said Escoto is in the country illegally and had previously been deported.
