West Nile Virus detected in San Joaquin County mosquitoes

(FOX40.COM) — West Nile Virus has been detected in the first mosquitoes that have tested positive in San Joaquin County, according to county officials.

The San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control District said the virus-positive mosquitoes were found in the Upper Jones Tract in the San Joaquin Delta islands.

“As temperatures continue to rise this summer, residents should take steps to reduce mosquito development around their homes and protect themselves from mosquito bites,” Sumiko De La Vega, public information officer with the district, said. “We encourage residents to inspect their yards each week for standing water where mosquitoes can develop and to use EPA-registered mosquito repellents when outdoors.”…
