Killer sentenced to 40 years minimum in family shooting case

(FOX40.COM) — A San Joaquin judge sentenced a convicted killer to 40 years to life in prison, plus an additional nine years, the prosecutors announced Thursday morning.

Kenneth Ernesto Mejia of Stockton was convicted in May of second-degree murder, attempted murder, illegally possessing a firearm and swerving a car towards two young children, according to the San Joaquin District Attorney’s Office.

This sentencing stems from a November 2024 incident that began when Mejia swerved his vehicle towards his young relatives, aged 10 and 11, to taunt them, the DA’s office said. When the children’s father attempted to confront Mejia, he opened fire, and the father later died at the scene…
