(FOX40.COM) — A man believed to be street racing before hitting and killing a woman walking her dog on a Stockton college campus was sentenced on Monday to serve the upper term of six years in state prison, the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office said.
In October 2024, Jamaraqui Burks, who was driving up to 90 miles per hour, hit a vehicle and lost control of his Tesla Model X while “appearing” to race a Dodge Challenger near Pacific and W. Yokuts avenues. His car careened onto the San Joaquin Delta College campus and hit 23-year-old Jazmine Floris , who was walking her dog. She later died from her injuries at the hospital, the attorney’s office said.
Burks fled the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by campus police officers. In March, Burks pled guilty to Gross Vehicular Manslaughter with Gross Negligence. In a statement released to the public following his sentencing, district attorney Ron Freitas said:…
