Downtown Stockton debuts safer, more connected East Channel Streetscape

The San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission and the city of Stockton recently celebrated the completion of the East Channel Street Streetscape and Connectivity Project.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Thursday, July 9 at the Robert J. Cabral Station, 949 E. Channel St., in celebration of the infrastructure project that aims to enhance “walkability, safety, and sustainability” in the downtown area.

“Every passenger’s journey does begin long before they step onto the train, hence why the Channel Street Project is so important. It starts when they leave their home, they walk down a sidewalk, they ride a bicycle, they connect to the transit service, and when these connections work well, public transportation is at its best, and that’s when we’re most proud of our public transportation system,” said Lisa Craig-Hensley, San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission chairperson. “Projects like this are investments in economic vitality as much as they are investments in transportation infrastructure.”…
