Stanislaus Animal Services Agency Executive Director Lily Yap was fired on July 30. Her departure follows months of controversy surrounding overcapacity, insufficient medical care and rising euthanasia rates at the county animal shelter.
“It’s sad when anybody loses their job,” rescue support volunteer Nancy Klein said. “I was relieved, I think is the proper word to say my feelings when I heard, relieved because we’ve all been so exhausted trying to support and right a system that really belongs to the community.”
Yap, who began in the role in April 2025, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. She had 15 years of animal welfare experience in Texas and Louisiana before joining SASA…
