(FOX40.COM) — A man has been shot by a police officer following a pursuit along southbound Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County, according to the Lathrop Police Department.
Traffic on Interstate 5 remains “significantly impacted” due to the incident, and police recommend avoiding the area entirely if possible.
On Saturday around 12:30 p.m., Lathrop police officers were in pursuit of a Nissan Sedan driven by a man wanted for domestic violence.

The man drove southbound on I-5 from Roth Road when his Nissan became disabled, which caused him to pull over to the right shoulder of the roadway. The suspect then left his car and fled on foot.
At about 12:37, police said the man attempted to steal a vehicle along I-5 when a Lathrop police officer shot him.
Police said the man was taken to a San Joaquin County hospital and is expected to survive.
