A suspect who led deputies on a chase early Monday morning in Stockton was detained after crashing into an orchard in Linden, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies said they spotted a vehicle at about 1:30 a.m. matching the description from a Stockton carjacking case and tried to pull it over near Gianone Park in Stockton. However, the suspect reportedly fled, with deputies in pursuit.

Ultimately, the suspect crashed into an orchard off state Highway 26 between Jack Tone and Murray roads near Linden.

Deputies said the suspect, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, barricaded himself in his vehicle, refused to surrender and threatened to harm himself.

The sheriff’s SWAT team and their crisis negotiation team delivered a cellphone to the suspect for communication, resulting in his eventual surrender.
