ATWATER, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A male suspect in a 2022 homicide investigation in Atwater has been arrested in Tracy during a pursuit for other charges, the Atwater Police Department said.
According to police, on Feb. 1, 2022, at approximately 10 p.m., they investigated a shooting call that led to the death of a woman.
Detectives investigating first homicide of the year in Atwater, officials say
Officers say the investigation led to the identification of a suspect in the case, 32-year-old Fernando Perez, a resident of Atwater.
On Feb. 2, 2024, police say Perez was taken into custody by the Tracy Police Department after a pursuit on an unrelated charge and was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail. That information was relayed to Atwater Police Department which placed a hold on the subject.
According to the Atwater Police Department, Perez is awaiting transfer to the Merced County Jail on a homicide warrant in the Atwater case.
Although an arrest has been made, police say this is an ongoing investigation.
